ช่วงยุคหลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 เศรษฐกิจญี่ปุ่นในตอนนั้นยังฟื้นตัวจากสงคราม การผสมวิสกี้กับโซดาทำให้ดื่มได้ในราคาที่จับต้องได้มากกว่าดื่มวิสกี้เพียวๆ จึงกลายเป็นเครื่องดื่มยอดนิยมตามร้านบาร์ราคาย่อมเยาทั่วเมือง มีเชนบาร์เฉพาะทางที่เปิดขึ้นในช่วงนั้นเพื่อเจาะกลุ่มนี้โดยเฉพาะ ช่วยปูรากฐานความคุ้นเคยให้คนญี่ปุ่นตั้งแต่ตอนนั้นมาจนถึงทุกวันนี้

แต่เส้นทางของไฮบอลก็ไม่ได้ราบรื่นตลอด ช่วงทศวรรษ 1980s ความนิยมของไฮบอลเคยตกลงจนถูกมองว่าเป็นเครื่องดื่มของคนรุ่นเก่า แต่ว่าหลังจากนั้นไม่นานไฮบอลก็กลับมาได้รับความสนใจอีกครั้ง

📜 1950s | Affordable & Accessible
In postwar Japan, the economy was still recovering. Mixing whisky with soda made it more affordable than drinking whisky neat, making Highball a popular choice at budget-friendly bars across the country. Some bar chains even emerged specifically to cater to this market, helping make Highball a familiar drink to generations of Japanese.
But Highball’s journey wasn’t always smooth. Its popularity declined in the 1980s, and it came to be seen as an old-fashioned drink. Not long after, however, Highball began to make a comeback.

🔄 2008 | Reviving a Classic
A series of Highball marketing campaigns in Japan from 2008 helped give the drink a more modern image that appealed to younger generations. Interest gradually grew, and Highball eventually became a staple on izakaya menus across Japan.
